On Friday March 21st, 6-10pm, River’s Edge Gallery at 3024 Biddle in Wyandotte, MI will host a meet the artists night and exhibit opening of “Status Chroma.” Artists exhibiting in this show are M.E. Croci, Tim Southward, and Maralena Howard. “Status Chroma” means “state of intense color.” It captures the brilliant colors of the show. The pieces range from mixed media to glass art. It promises to be an exciting show with fresh, new art.
Maralena Howard was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She is a painter and mixed media artist and writer. She focuses on abstract and minimalist subjects. When asked about her work she says, “I celebrate the complex nature of detailed simplicity. Capture. Repossess. Release. In each piece, there is liberation.” She is a familiar face in the Metro Detroit art scene. Howard won the Emerging Artist award from the Downriver Council of the Arts in 2008. Her work is exhibited throughout the United States and internationally.
M.E. Croci has been exhibiting her art in Metro Detroit since 1980. Her work is truly mixed media. It combines everything from watercolor to acrylic , to pen and ink and found objects. Her work is never dull, but bursting with color.
Tim Southward is a glass artist who is new to the scene. Southward’s arrival happens just in time for Glass Month in Michigan, which is celebrated by galleries around the state in April. This is his first time exhibiting with River’s Edge Gallery. Jeremy Hansen, Gallery Director, is ecstatic to work with Southward. “We’re very excited to have such a fresh, young, talented artist showing with us,” says Hansen. “We’re glad we could work with this artist and help develop his budding career.” Southward is a graduate of the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. His work is very conceptual and its mission is to challenge stories and evoke emotion with his art.
River’s Edge Gallery was established in 1980 and for thirty-four years has dedicated its walls to the art of local and regional artists. These artists range from emerging careers to internationally known names. “Status Chroma” marks the beginning of the gallery’s 2014 season. This year promises to be an exciting one. “We’re showing lots of our house artists, like Amy Chenier and Johnny Bee Badanjek,” says Patt Slack, gallery owner. “It’s going to be interesting to see what they bring to the table. But we’re also showing several new faces. It’s going to be a good blend.”
“Status Chroma” will run from March 21st to April 30th. For more information, call River’s Edge Gallery at 734-246-9880 or email at email@example.com.
