201401-Pongracz-DarlingAudrey was born in Detroit, Michigan in the summer of 1979 and was raised in the Mexicantown area of southwest Detroit.   A self taught painter, Audrey is constantly working to hone and refine her craft. She is inspired by various art movements including the 17th and 18th century European artists, the Surrealists of the early 20th century, and the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. Her work itself is considered part of the “Low Brow” or “Pop Surrealist” movement that began in L.A. in the 1970s and has continued to modern times.

Her work is hyper realistic yet always contains an element of the impossible: one woman grows a crystal spine, another woman floats in space.

Statement:

I believe art should be attainable to everyone, visually or mentally.  This is something I strive for in my work.  Art should be a viewing experience.  I love when I can look at a painting and be entranced by it, in awe of its application or just the wonder of it.
