Award winning artist, Irene Z. Will, is truly a renaissance woman, working in multi-media, photography, print making, assemblage and sculpture. Her work has been exhibited not only in Michigan, but throughout the Midwest. She is considered to be one of the Downriver area's most talented artists with works in many private collections here and abroad including the permanent collection of Blue Cross / Blue Shield.
Ms. Will's lifelong motivation has been the empowerment of individuals and serving the underserved.
This is a mission she still adheres to through the subject matter of her art and the donation of it to nonprofit
organizations such as Artworks for Life; the Midwest AIDS Prevention Project. Will's art is a bold statement of her observations of the political, economic, and social issues prevalent in the country and the world today.
Ms. Will has her BA in art education from Western Michigan University; an MA in education and MSW in social work from Wayne State University. She is currently a member of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU); the Feminist Majority; past board member of the National Association for Social Workers (ASW); past president of the Downriver chapter of the National Organization of Women (NOW) as well as having served on the state board of NOW and past vice-president of the Scarab Club. Ms. Will is also a founding member of the Grosse Ile Art Alliance; a non profit organization whose goal is to bring free public cultural events and concerts to the people of the Downriver communities.
In 2002, Ms. Will created and organized the "Angels in DelRay Project" to call attention to the plight of a dying city. Over 120 angels, painted by artists from all over the state, were put up on three city blocks of abandoned buildings in the City of DelRay.
In April of 2004, Ms. Will received a Special Legislative Tribute from the State of Michigan and Governor Granholm for her contributions to the growth and appreciation of art in Michigan through her work as an artist, social worker and political activist.
