Current Exhibition - Shadows and Passages
On October 17th through November 21st the award winning River’s Edge Gallery will be hosting “Shadows and Passages”, a three woman collaborative exhibit with Barbara Melnik Carson, Marianne Letasi, and Nancy Pitel. The opening reception is Friday October 17th 6-10pm. Barbara Melnik Carson is a widely known Ann Arbor sculptor who joins hand built clay with found objects to create mixed media sculptures that tell a story. Frequently incorporating religious and ethnic themes, that are both personal and universal. Her fascinating new body of work has been created specifically for “Shadows and Passages”. Marianne Letasi has been a Detroit Institute of Arts photographer for 20 years. Her vast experience has now led her to the exploration of the unusual and seldom seen process of infra red photography. Letasi will be showing the results of her new technique as well as a broad range of figurative and nature studies in her recognizably creative style. Nancy Pitel’s art career has included 30 years as an advertising artist and a tenure as Executive Director of the historic Scarab Club in Midtown Detroit. Pitel’s new body of work is the result of experimentation with mixing fantasy and realism with collage and acrylic mediums. The results are intriguing images full of intense color and emotion that tell stories the viewer can relate to.
