About the Exhibition
River’s Edge Gallery is proud to present Balancing The Feminine, a new exhibition featuring multimedia artist Martine MacDonald and sculptor Corey Scillian. Together, their works explore the harmony, tension, and transformative power of feminine energy — its creativity, intuition, vulnerability, and strength.
Through a range of mediums and perspectives, Balancing The Feminine invites viewers to engage with the layered complexities of identity and expression. The exhibition opens with a public reception on Thursday, November 14, from 6–9 PM, with both artists in attendance.
The Artists
Martine MacDonald
Martine MacDonald’s multimedia works blend texture, color, and symbolism to express the quiet power of the feminine experience. Her compositions move between reflection and motion, capturing transformation through balance. MacDonald’s work was recently selected for the Bennett Collection, a renowned assemblage celebrating figurative realist paintings of women by women — though this exhibition expands into her mixed-media explorations.
Corey Scillian
Working in sculptural form, Corey Scillian offers tactile works that embody grounding and resilience. Her sculptures reflect the strength found in stillness and form, often evoking organic and earthen qualities. Scillian served as Chairman of the Board for Detroit’s historic Pewabic Pottery and refined her techniques through mentorship and workshops with artists such as Gloria Frank and Jo Ann Aquinto.
A Conversation in Balance
Together, MacDonald and Scillian create a visual dialogue that explores equilibrium — between chaos and calm, softness and strength, earth and spirit. Balancing The Feminine is an invitation to reflect on how these forces coexist within us all.
